FIRST OF ALL, let me clarify something. Star Trek IS cool. Star Trek always has been cool and Star Trek always will be cool. But what I mean is that the general public is just now realizing it.
Notice that all of a sudden, because there's a mainstream, hip movie coming out, EVERYONE is suddenly a Star Trek fan, whether they cared before or not.
Of course this is a good thing. Star Trek needs as many new fans as it can get. That's how the fandom is going to last. But not all of us converted within the last year because of the new movie. I for one was saying "Live long and prosper" and doing the Vulcan salute when it was still geeky and lame to do so. Which wasn't actually that long ago.
I'm sure looking forward to the movie though. A few more days to go and I can hardly wait.
I knew all the names of bridge members on Enterprise better then I knew the characters on the original Sesame Street. I loved it then and I love it now.

been a trekkie since 1988 *literally from the day I was born I was exposed to star trek and loved it* it has been one of the big driving forces in my life to be a good guy

I've loved Star Trek for a long time (mainly the movies and ST: Voyager), and consider The Journey Home, The Undiscovered Country, and Generations to be some of my favorite movies. However, I do not know what to think about the new movie coming out. Quite frankly, it doesn't look like it's going to FEEL like ST. That was the problem with Enterprise, which was the last new thing to come out (oh, there was also Nemesis, but I never watched that movie). So . . . Yeah, I'm skeptical . . .

I was kind of that kid who knew about it, had trekkie parents, and never really questioned the Supremacy of Picard nor the Awesomeness of TNG, especially after I saw some of the original series and was absolutely appalled. I did have a starfleet uniform I wore a couple of times to my schools' halloween parties (the TNG red-shirt jumpsuit, which allowed me to cross series and pretend to be Janeway or even cooler, Dax--because OMG I would get to marry Worf). So am I a trekkie? I guess, somewhat.
My first exposure to Star Trek was in the womb (parents saw Wrath of Khan like the week before I was born). Literally have seen every episode of the orig series and Next Generation.
I was a trekkie when it was lame to even talk about it... I mean, with other trekkies it was ok, but with most people... *sighs* But now it's cool, and it's a good thing, cause Star Trek must rule the WORLD!!!
I totally agree with you on this deathtoll1912, and this stamp rocks. when something's cool all of a sudden its not geeky to everyone else eh? Had to experience that with Star trek and Doctor Who. Trekkies unite! Cosmic*
